Built in 1934, the South Coast Theater, originally the New Lynn Theater, was in need of renovation. Kaptive C&P’s Custom Millwork division fabricated all of the custom millwork, including moldings and paneling, as part of a comprehensive restoration effort to preserve its historic integrity. The project encompassed restoration of the marquee, ticket booth, and original 129-seat theater area, earning it a spot in the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
Although much of the wood was well-preserved due to a protective paint covering, there were areas of the theater and historic ticket booth with damage and missing sections. We utilized the existing molding, arranging for the manufacturing of custom blades to precisely match the decorative molding and ensure accurate replication.
Additionally, we did custom window and door fabrication, and restored the rafter tails for the wooden balcony. We patched and repaired the latter using wood putty where necessary, while two were custom-manufactured as replacements, in order to conceal new structural framing.
