Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument
200 North Spring Street, Los Angeles, CA
An important step toward maintaining the elegance of this historic monument has been taken with the recent completion of the LA City Hall project. A key player in this project was Kaptive C&P, which concentrated on the complex work necessary to repair the building’s breathtaking marble features.
The reattachment of the elevator marble was one of Kaptive C&P’s main duties. With the surrounding marble’s design, the crew expected difficulties in getting rid of the old pieces. Rather, they worked out a methodical plan to move the marble and, if needed, drill three or four holes to put epoxy glue in, making sure that the marble was securely bonded to the backing surface. By utilizing epoxy that complements the current polish and texture, this method not only keeps the marble’s structural integrity but also its aesthetic appeal.
Kaptive C&P also took care of the marble baseboard in the hallway, which had four loose pieces and one missing piece. The group expertly restored the damaged marble by covering the back with a layer of lath and quick-setting cement. They achieved a seamless finish by matching the color and texture of the front to the surrounding marble with pins and epoxy.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Kaptive C&P team, the window restoration project has been completed successfully, enhancing both the beauty and functionality of this historic landmark. Our work not only honors the past but also ensures that the LA City Hall continues to serve future generations. We are proud to contribute to the preservation of this cherished site, helping to maintain its status as a vital part of the community’s heritage.
