Structural Reinforcing for Barstow Train Station

Barstow, San Bernardino County
California, USA

The Santa Fe Depot in Barstow was a major stop on the transcontinental railway and housed a Harvey House restaurant. Brick and cast stone removal, restoration, and reassembly was necessary, as these veneer elements suffered a major blow during previous seismic activity. Two towers had collapsed completely in a pile of rubble.

Due to a demolition which did not follow basic preservation principles, we spent many hours piecing together the assembly sequence to put the tower pieces back together. They were later reinstalled after structural reinforcing and other seismic upgrades were completed.
